Parent/Diver responsibilities
At LA Dive Club we strive to conduct all communications between the club and our members in a manner of the highest respect. The Diving Parents’ Responsibilities below has been created to ensure that all relations between coaches, parents and athletes remain at this high level of mutual respect and to ensure that all parents know what is expected of them as members of the program.
A Diving Parent's Responsibilities
What is expected of a LA Dive Club Team Parent:
- Do not communicate with your children during practice. Doing this creates split attention on the part of
the athlete and the coaches.
- At worst, it can create a dangerous situation for an entire practice, at best it results in confusion and frustration on the part of the athlete and the coach.
Parents/Guardians Who Attend Practice
- When your child looks your way, show your support with an encouraging smile.
- Make sure the diver is at practice on time and ready to dive. (Please make sure they are in their swim suits prior to practice starting so we can start on time)
- Encourage your child without pressuring them. Always show interest and enthusiasm.
- Try not to coach your child. During practices and meets, allow the coaches to do their job.
- Do not communicate with your children during practice. Doing this creates split attention on the part of
the athlete and the coaches.
- At worst, it can create a dangerous situation for an entire practice, at best it results in confusion and frustration on the part of the athlete and the coach.
- Let your child know that you will be there for them, even if a practice or competition does not go as well as hoped or anticipated.
- Please do not disturb the coaches while they are coaching; speaking to the coaching staff on the pool deck is prohibited.
- Aggressive behavior or language, either through the form of e-mails, phone calls, voice mails, carrier pigeon, text message, instant message, or any other form towards any member of the LA Dive Club Team coaching staff will be grounds for immediate termination from the program.
- Please limit calls or text messages to the coaching staff to the hours of 9am – 8pm, we will respect the same hours in responding to any messages we receive, and will reply within 48 hours.
- Payments are due by the 5th of the month (For lesson divers – the payment is expected at the 1st practice). If for any reason a diver needs to take a break or take a session off, we need 24 days advanced notice, if we do not we will have to charge for the session. Once a diver starts a session, we do not offer refunds or Pro-rate the session for team members.
- Parents may also be asked to volunteer on occasion for meets and team trips – this is always a lot of fun! If you are willing to help drive, work a scoring table, etc., please let us know!
Parents/Guardians Who Attend Practice
- Parents are encouraged to learn and be active in our sport. It is vitally important to your child’s safety and learning that parents let the professional coaches coach their athletes. Often, in an effort to be helpful, parents try to give their child advice during or even after practice. This only creates confusion for the athlete and makes the coach’s job very difficult! This type of behavior by parents will not be tolerated. Parents are encouraged to participate in practice as a supportive spectator, parents seating is on the far side of the pool on the bleachers on deck, not on the benches behind our work area.
- When your child looks your way, show your support with an encouraging smile.
- If your child misbehaves, a coach has some responsibility to discipline them, but the ultimate responsibility for discipline remains with the parent.
- Helping athletes demonstrate sportsmanship is an important aspect of their development in the sport. Model sportsmanship and do not criticize coaches, officials or other divers in front of your child.
- Parents if you have any questions regarding practice or how your child is doing please email any questions or concerns to ladiveclub@gmail.com you may also call Coach Davidson at (267) 252- 1177.
